In honor of the 60th Anniversary of Gideon, the Fredericksburg office of the Public Defender is partnering with Micah, a nonprofit that has been involved in supporting and caring for unhoused community members for nearly forty years. While our concert, featuring “3 Exits to Memphis” raises awareness for public defense, the silent auction seeks to support Micah, specifically its housing project, the Jeremiah Community. The Jeremiah Community seeks to build upon the existing approach to homelessness in Fredericksburg that’s guided by the principle of “Housing First;” a philosophy that puts basic human needs like food, shelter, and safety first and without precondition (i.e. sobriety, mental health treatment, income, etc.).
