A taste of things to come: We’d like to introduce you to the delicious fare of Chef Jessica Wilkins, recently one of the top contestants on Food Network’s Cut Throat Kitchen, and other culinary stars of Hub of Hope. Come experience their wonderful food and learn about opportunities for our club in their event space. 6:15 PM Presentation: “Forbidden Words,” by John Lewis This recorded presentation of the Paxton Paper*, from the 2016 International Association of Torch Clubs Summer Convention, is just as timely today as it was prophetic when it was first presented. In this presentation, John Lewis draws on his experience as a radio broadcast executive, whose family founded Fredericksburg’s WFVA AM in 1939, and later a broadcast chain, to explore linguistic taboos, and how society’s perception of various words changes over time. *The Paxton Award is the highest honor for a published paper in Torch. 6:45 PM Discussion The cornerstone of Torch is fellowship, based on mutual respect and love of learning. We meet to feed not only our bodies, but also our minds with stimulating topics, and our communities with open, honest, and considerate dialogue. Seating is limited to 20, register soon to insure a seat!
