ALBUM REVIEW-MORGAN WALLEN’S “DANGEROUS”

By Lindsey B

Morgan Wallen’s “Dangerous” 30 track album is filled with different themes, one clear theme is regret. Many of the tracks are based on a reflection with hurt in many of the lyrics. Wallen’s name has been through the media in a very negative light this past year. Fans can see that this album was a form of therapy for the artist. The track “Livin’ The Dream” alludes to how he really feels about his actions since he hit the mainstream of fame. Wallen brings Chris Stapleton and Rock songwriter Ben Burgess on the album.

The first 15 tracks on the album have more of a melancholy theme. The tracks “7 Summers” and “More Than My Hometown” that were released before the album are included in the first 15 tracks. It seems that these songs along with the rest of the regret themed songs, that Wallen dug deep into his feelings for this part of the album. Another track that dropped before the album is “Somebody’s Problem”, a song written about a girl that will most likely bring regret and pain, but the guy wants her anyway. The song begins with a simple guitar before crescendoing into this simple hook in the chorus that Wallen’s songs always have. This one will be stuck in your head for a long time.

“Only Thing That’s Gone” is the track with Stapleton; it’s a play on words that takes place in a bar where the lyrics are addressed towards a bartender that keeps refilling his drink. The lyrics are, “my last drink ain’t the only thing that’s gone”, this line pulls at the heartstrings of the listener. While this song is a stereotypical country song, it is written in a soulful light that Stapleton is known for in any song he has a part of.

The second part of the album has a much more positive sound, with more uptempo music and Wallen’s quick tongue.  “Somethin’ Country” is a fast song with Wallen’s pride for being a good ole country boy while showing a girl a good time. The second part of the album also includes the tracks “ This Bar” and a different version of “Heartless” both tracks that were released before the album.

The title track “Dangerous” has a faster tempo and it is about the destructive behavior that the singer is well-known for. Wallen must really want his fans to know he is aware of his demons, and the women that have hurt him made him this way.

One of my favorite tracks is, “Blame it On Me” which is a fun song about the effect a country boy can have on a girl’s life. It is a classic Morgan Wallen song, with southern charm and a catchy hook that is accompanied by a modern country twang. My favorite track on the album, “Silverado For Sale” is about selling a truck to buy a ring for the girl he loves. The song reminds me of Alan Jackson’s “Wanted”, where a man professes his love for a woman through an ad in the paper.

This album contains many facets with feel-good summer songs, along with some heart clenching lyrics that really hit home in the sad songs. Wallen outdid himself with this album, and fans have a lot to unpack with each and every track.
